New Energy Challengers (NEC)










6 Tracks – 30 Finalists

New Energy Challengers (NEC) identifies and brings the world’s top energy, transport and sustainability startups together on one stage to compete for equity free money prize, and the attention of global media and 75+ VC’s and CVC’s.

Companies compete in six main tracks contributing to the sustainable energy transition – Batteries, Hydrogen, E-mobility, Digitalization, Automation & AI, Future Grid. 


60 finalists, 10 per each track, are chosen by a distinguished panel of industry leading experts from leading corporations, Venture Capital, ecosystem builders and green media partners. 60 finalists will be pitching virtually during the New Energy Challengers week (June 29 – July 3) at Energy Tech Network.

In the finals, 30 top companies, 5 per each track, will be pitching virtually over 5 day event at the Energy Tech Summit 2020, offering valuable press attention and networking opportunities. 

It is a competition, where winner takes it all. One single company will be announced as the ultimate winner of New Energy Challenger 2020 award.


There is no geographical limitation for application, companies from all around the world are encouraged to apply if they meet the below minimum criteria:

- from Seed to Series B growth stage
- must be a technology company challenging status quo in the energy and mobility sectors
- must have a market ready product (we do not encourage pre-product companies to apply)
- must have revenue or at least minimal traction
- is privately held, often with venture capital investors or bootstrapped
- cannot be a spin-off from large conglomerate
- finalists are required to attend Energy Tech Summit 2020 and pitch at NEC in person (C level or Founder level)

Autofleet provides a “Vehicle as a service” platform to automate and optimise existing fleet operations and enable new mobility businesses.

Ionomr Innovations Inc. offers technology to greatly increase efficiency and scalability of green hydrogen production and carbon utilization technology.

Kayrros uses satellite, sensor, geolocation, social media and web data to deliver data for use cases ranging from risk management to asset monitoring.

Zaphiro Technologies helps to guarantee the resilience of the electrical grid by mitigating the destabilising effects of distributed energy resources by controlling them automatically with their combined hardware and software solution.
